That's the problem with laptops, they are pretty expensive still, although not as costly as a few years back.

Often you get what you pay for, £200 - £300 should get you a very good 2nd hand one.  My lappy cost £649 but a colleague picked up the same one for just over £500 on eBay.

If you're buying a 2nd hand one that appears cheap, try it out, if you can, before you buy it.

To be honest at these prices you're going to be getting an old, very low spec laptop. That last one is running Windows 95 which isn't even supported by Microsoft anymore and has a number of security flaws. By spending a bit more you'll get a laptop which will last longer. Treat it as an investment in yourself!

If it's only for betting and you are spending loads on the new baby, why not just wait till you have won a few more £££ and get a better one.  It's all very well buying cheap but you will be wanting to upgrade soon and get frustrated at its slowness if you are used to a faster pc.  Do you need a lappy at all?  I think you are better of waiting untill you can afford a newer one personally.

Buy cheap, pay twice.

I can see you in my mind mate hosting a BBC show about buying and selling.  You could be the new David Dickinson  Cheesy .    Your catchphrase to the cameras  " Buy cheap, pay twice "   .   You need to get a fake tan now and a pin stripped suit

Smithy, I have a laptop I dont use anymore. it's an Acer travelmate 240.

15" screen

Intel celeron 2.6 GHZ

1* 256mb DDRSD Ram

30GB HDD

It's running windows XP and has a DVD player/CD re-writer.

I don't use it becase the fan is a little noisy for my taste.

You can have it for £150. If you don't like it, return it within two weeks and I will refund your money.

It's about 2.5 years old.

Can I ask, why do you need a lappy? You can buy a destop much cheaper you know.

See what you can come up with first, this is not going anywhere.
