Okay, heres the brief story (i posted a rant on my blog with a bigger story)

Macdonalds today, I leave my wallet behind. Now, the girl behind the counter picks it up an puts it away. A guy who was served after me said to the girl "give us that wallet, i know him i'll pass it to him outside". So, the girl hands it over without question.

I realised a little later on and went to the counter to get it, an the girl says "was it the one with the driving licence in? I gave it to a guy who said he knew you". So why didnt she ask the man what my name was! She saw the licence so she could easy check. Plus, she saw me sitting down to eat.

I spoke to the manager who is getting the CCTV for the police etc, and I have my crime reference number. But I cant help but feel that I would rather have just left it on a table rather than their stupid staff giving it away!

Anyway, my point is, does a lawyer think theres a case here maybe to sue? I know we have a few around... I had personal details in the wallet, plus cash and bank cards and its the hassle of getting it all back.

Its my own fault and I know that, Im a careless bugger - but I cant help but get really angry at that stupid girl... ive never heard the like! And the manager was a bit rude n all, appologising but saying you cant blame her shes new.

To top it off the fries where cold lol.

A couple of people mentioned suing or at least wrting them a letter but ive never done that before so im not sure how to do it or the costs.

lol.  They always are.  At least you can laugh about it.

I would just write a letter and ask for an apology, you might get a lifetime pass for free Big Mac's

to be honest it wouldn't even cross my mind to sue over this!  Good luck if you pursue it though.

What you gonna do? Sue for whatever cash you had in your wallet? £50?
It's not worth the stress.

The girl made a mistake yes, but your error in leaving the wallet behind was the bigger mistake.

If you get the lifetime pass, In ten years time, you could make a TV show about your addiction to Big Mac's.  You might have a case for suing then. You can claim that your addiction was a result of the girl giving away your walllet. If that hadn't happened, you wouldn't be addicted to Big Mac's, your health would be better and the overall stress that you have experienced because of the whole ordeal would never have happened.  You could start off a whole new career as a Government health adviser traveling around the country advising others not to take the same path you did.

Good plan?

To be fair the standard procedure in Mcdonalds was to place any forgotten wallets, purses ect in to the cashiers office, That way they get locked in the safe and can be collected by the owner.  What the girl did was wrong, and it would be the company at fault not the employee, the company would be held responsible.

yes the girl could say she was so stressed about the whole thing she was going to sue. she had no training on lost property and mcD's have failed in their duty as an employer?? Smiley

I agree, get a good lawyer and get the girl in at the same time, you sue for negligence and then once you win with supporting testimony, she sues for stress and you take a cut :-]

Its win win!
