You CAN do it - Good luck Claire - you are right, the more pwople you tell the more you will be able to do it.

As others have said: 'One day at a time.'

Allen Carr's Easy Way To Give Up Smoking

Couldn't recommend it more.

Bollox to cutting down, bollox to patches, gum, gaining weight. Don't worry about it.

It doesn't use aversion therapy, or patronizing "smoking kills by the way" blurb. (We kinda know that already, it doesn't stop us)

The book helps you give up smoking through sheer force of logic alone.

Nemesis and Tank swear by it.  thumbs up

The key thing is you are not giving up smoking. You are escaping from it's clutches.

You are not giving up anything, being a non-smoker will help you enjoy life more.

The best thing is, if you approach it the right way, it's not tough at all, it's liberating and enjoyable.

I'll close by saying this....

BUY THE BOOK                      BUY THE BOOK                      BUY THE BOOK

I read that last time I 'gave up' Tank - for 2 weeks!  What would you call it if not aversion therapy?

Ok, fair enough. Only trying to help just in case (apparently it works sometimes)

I read it and gave up for 2 days.  Cheesy

*Lights a fag*

It was on the plane to Vegas. The thing is, packs of fags are like $5 over there, and you can smoke in museums ffs.

Still, hmmmm, might read it again.

lol!

I was just interested in your viewpoint, because when people have asked me what the book is like I usually say something like 'it's just basic aversion therapy and reminding you how bad smoking is for your health etc etc, and here was someone telling me they had seen something completely different in it!!!!

Incidentially, did you know he started smoking again, and now has lung cancer?

I read the book over 3 years ago and I'm so glad I did.

I haven't smoked since.

I read in the paper that he had lung cancer but not that he'd started smoking again. He used to smoke 100s a day.

Good luck Claire, I found that i needed a strong motivation to give up. Have you got one?

Shame. One could draw some cheap irony from an anti-cigarette guru smoking and contracting lung cancer.

His legacy is that he has helped thousands of people though. (Or Nemesis at least)

I saw the book as being a reprogramming, rather than aversion. It did have aversion type chapters though.

Not tried anything like that before, but this time round I'm going to try a little tip I read in a magazine this week.  It's to do with a 'finger tapping' tecnique.  It says that when you crave a cigarette, you should tap repeatedly on the point between your little and ring finger repeating "I accept that I am addicted to cigarettes, and even though I crave one, I still respect myself" -  apparently the craving passes after that.  I don't know, but worth a try anyway!
