There is too much light pollution and smoke from the Ned's bonfires round where I stay.  Last time I saw a star was while watching Star Trek last Saturday.  It's a shame I like the Stars

When we lost Sam (our 3 week old baby boy)

Someone named a star in his honour for us.

We got a picture framed, with his name on it,and where the star is,,

It took me a long time, nearly 7 years to get this out,it now hangs proudly on my living room wall.

THE SAM HUNT STAR

I am so proud someone did this for me...

Every so often I come across a post on here that makes me stop, look at the screen for awhile, then find that everything has truly been put into perspective by what I've just read.

Thanks for sharing that Shelly.

Me and thousands of others on have been waiting on the launch of the stardust project where you get the chance to look through slides with a virtual telescope looking for interstellar dust. If you find one (i think ive got 2 so far?) you can win the right to name them.
As i was typing this i realised that probably a lot of folk aint into stardust even if they like space but heres the link anyway. you join and go through a tutorial and pass a test. then its away you go. there are lots of test videos mixed in with real slides to ensure a certain degree of accuracy

Ha ha ha ha i tried it and got 2 out of 10!!!

you need 8 out of 10 to pass and pasrticipate!

looks like ill never be a space dust discoverer!

Cheers Mad - something else to waste time on

Got 9 out of 10 on the test - so might keep doing them.

yep those dust particles can be a real bugger when you mistake them for a track!

I've just got a feeling there will be hundreds or even thousands without a track - so it could be a LONG boring search.

just imagine the buzz of actuall finding one. check this out. i think it might be one but you might need to log in to view it. its just below cetre to the left. as you raise the magnification a black track appears between the 3 particles.
