Just wondering if anybody knows anything about this sort of thing and can re-assure me or give advice here.

For a few years I had been umming and arring about going to university to follow my ideal career of working with kids, either in teaching or other roads.  I decided last year that now was the time.  I couldn't get in for september 2005, so I applied and got my acceptance in December.

Part of the reason I went for it was because my friend had suggested if there were courses in Swansea, him and his wife would put me up for the three years.  I figured that this would be a big help.

Around that time they were in the vetting process for fostering and now care permanently for two boys.  Unsure of how this would affect me they spoke to the boys social worker who said me staying would not be a problem, I would need to be CRBed (criminal record checked) and  if that went through it would be fine.

She then checked the situation yesterday and it appears that it's not so simple.  I have to supply records passport driving licecnce etc, and then the panel (health visitor, school reps, social workers etc,) decide whether I can live there or not.

If anyone has any experience on this stuff and can add comment please do, or PM me.

Cheers

I've heard that these officials can be very petty and work to a logic unfathomable by anyone else. I don't see why if ur CRB check comes back clean you'd be barred from living there seeing as you'd be cleared to work in schools. May be just a case of not wanting to introduce anything new into the environment that the kids in question currently enjoy.

Good luck with the course!

It sounds like you'd have to get these things done one day anyway if you intend to work with kids.  Getting out of the way now would be a positive thing wouldn't it?

If you're about to start a teaching course (eg.PGCE or similar) then wait till you enrol before getting it done as the uni should pay for it.

I've currently got two CRBs, one for cubs, and one for school work so that's not an issue.  Like Brum I don't think it's a problem of me being safe around kids, I think it's more the disruption of me being int here environment.  I'm trying not to panic at the moment.  As for the kids themselves there quality and the times I've stayed haven't been a problem at all.

I guess I'm just a bit worried about this being decided by a bunch of people who don't know me at all.

Due to the performance of ITB at the last BB, I do not feel I can wrestle that title of drunkest blonde away from him at BB3 and so will not be attending.

Either that or it's my leaving do in Wycombe.

And the prize goes to Brum Billy for his correct answer.

I filled a form out for them at the time of the original post, it still hasn't been cleared, and my mate has been told that If i move in before it is they will take the kids away!  I've had to move my move date back to the day before my course starts and I might have to stay with one of his mates!
