                                                    stirthepot                   A dealer’s life.

I enter the card room with a smile on my face, get everything ready
Make sure everything’s in place.
As the players arrive, I greet them with a smile and hello,
To the one’s that are new, and the one’s that I know.

I wait patiently at my table for the game to begin, there is a delay I am told, someone forgot to buy in.
Now there is talking at the table to pass the time, it should start at eight thirty, not quarter to nine.
So now, there is moaning they say it’s not fair, to wait for those player’s, when we are all here.
Yet it was not that long ago maybe a month maybe two, that the person we waited for was probably you.
Now the clock is started and the game has begun, here’s hoping the rest of the night will be fun.

Stop dealing I am told, a break is not far, so off goes the players to the loo or the bar. Except the few who stay and chat going over bad beat stories and things like that.
I listen, nod, smile, and gasp, and I know that this story will not be the last.
Now the players are seated and the clock starts again, but the person on my left is being a pain.
He’s playing with his I-Pod and not paying attention at all
“It’s not my fault,” he cries, “I didn’t hear him call”
I ask him to be more careful and watch the game, so this sort of thing doesn’t happen again.
“That’s not enough,” some of you cry, “a ruling we want, a ruling on the guy.”
So a decision is made and play carries on, now all of a sudden it’s me in the wrong.

“You should have warned me about the pass/raise/or fold, how do I know if I haven’t been told?”
“I did try and say sir my actions were clear, maybe you should take an earphone out of your ear”
I’m starting to feel that this night’s going too slow,
When a friendly face catches my eye from someone I know.
One of the really nice players that I like to see, in a blink of an eye again I’m happy.

So it’s not bad, it’s not all good, and it may not always go the way that it should
But please remember dealers are people too,
So please treat me as I treat you.

Quite right. The only person responsible for their mistakes are the players. I say love the dealers.......

Nina it is! Great poem, and so true - she is always friendly and welcoming, but woe betide if a player tell her shes got it wrong, expecially when she's got it right!!  I love it when she tells them off!!

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.
