My laptop has been running extremely slow lately.  I mean really, really slow.  So slow, I now have  grey hair with all the waiting I do.

I don't normally unplug my extra monitor, but now with pokerstars re sizable tables, I decided to do without for today and disconnected it.  The monitor is part of the family now and I fear my laptop will miss it.  Anyway, now without the extra monitor it is running really quickly. Much faster than at anytime in recent times.

I am confused though, when I first added the monitor some months ago. It worked quickly with or without the extra monitor .  I tried an experiment a few moments ago and sure enough it is the extra monitor that is slowing things down.  I run spyware and virus checks constantly. I am a paranoid freak when it comes to germs

Any ideas why this is happening?

have you done the usual stuff...

1. scan for viruses/adware/spyware

2. delete cookies

3. delete temp internet files

4. defrag hard drive

...? Huh?

Edit: Okay, I'm leaving the above up, but I admit I read Sark's post a bit too quickly: if the 'puter works fine without the monitor, then it's probably the monitor!  Cheesy

Are the drivers for the plug in monitor up to date?

I brought it home on the bus, I didn't use a taxi driver to get home.  I imagine the bus drivers licence was up to date though, it was a Stagecoach bus

It is one of those plug and play ones.

When I see things like the X-Files and Moulder is trying to access secret government files before the bad guy comes back in the room, I always think to myself that if he was using my laptop he would have no chance of getting it done in time.  But if he disconnected the extra monitor he may be able to get it done in time.
