The argument was not whether it's possible, it's whether Papillon said, in the book, that it happened. He did.

Oh no he didn't.

Papillon is French for moth.

Butterfly actually.

Here we go again.....Moth is from the Latin, bootermothfly.

Papillon is a memoir by Henri Charrière. It was published in 1970, 25 years after the events of the book. It was translated into English from the original French by author Patrick O'Brian. It has been described as an autobiographical novel or a fictional novel by critics, but Charrière always maintained that the account was accurate and true. The book's title is Charrière's nickname, derived from a butterfly tattoo on his chest (papillon being the French word for butterfly).

I enjoyed the read, but boy does that guy big himself up or what!!!!  Fascinating story, but do you really believe it all?  I haven't researched it much so maybe it is supported, but with a fresh pair of eyes I thought the guy was a bit narcissistic.  Good fun book though....

And to answer the question... I'm not too sure I believe it's possible... but I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist soon so I'll ask!
