was this a really bad call on flop seeing as i was getting 2-1

I had the same sort of thing earlier, only i had 78 v AA and flopped the str8 
Heads up and v a player you have well covered in the 3rd level of a comp........automatic call.
BTW i didn't think he played them at all wrong, actually very nicely it isn't his fault all online poker is fixed

so you would double the blinds with 89s then call a reraise worth 35% of you stack ?

It depends really, i will gamble early on and i would call with suited connectors, he can still carry on with 1200ish it ain't fatal with the blinds that low.
I don't think it's as bad as calling a reraise with AJ,10,9 etc. cuz you are only chasing 1 card (most likely).
Each to their own of course, i folded JJ twice the other night and AQ to reraises.

i'll call smallish raises with suited connectors but 35% is either all in reraise or fold

it just depends at what point i'm still gambling, i think i would be in his spot.
I wouldn't do it later on or if i had more chips.

the reason i feel its wrong to call for 35% of your stack with 89s is if you hit your not getting the implied odds you need to make it a profitable play

What was flippes play like before the 89? was he calling large raises before the flop and then folding alot of hands after it? The oringinal call of 450 is silly in my oppinion... would need a very nice flop to make the call seem sensible. The fact that he got it made his all in sensible in my oppinion, however the river proved to be his undoing and a silly call of 450 wouldn't have got him in this trouble.

I don't disagree, i just said i would probably do the same.
If he had more chips you couldn't possibly have called his allin, just his bad luck you had aces and had double his chips.

if he had more chips then it wouldn't have been 35% of his stack
