I think he got 'destroyed'. in effect he got retired.

Why didn't he take up the rematch clause oppoutunity, he never wanted any part of that guy again, even back in Sheffield where it would've been held

Also how many people have beaten Barrera?

Pacqiau, Morales, plus several others have gone close....

Naz? Pah!

He was going on saying"I'm the greatest, I'm this and I'm that" blah, blah, blah and he did get well beaten by Barrera. But, and this is a big but - if he had the right attitude, like Lennox, he would have beaten Barrera.

Just my opinion...

The on thing you are forgetting, is that I am talking about 'Featherweight' fighters

He was excellent and I feel that if he could have got rid of his arrogance, he could have been one of the greats

Nem we both know the true greats are measured over several divisions.

And let's not forget Ali, Foreman, Tyson, Jones, Eubank, Hopkins etc etc etc who were cocky and were great.

Initially

I said that he could have been one of the greats of his division. However, if he never had such a bad attitude - who knows what 'could have' happened...

I think Nem is bang on with this. Naseem was a great fighter, an absolute natural. he beat everyone with ease on his way to the top. unfortunately he found out there was a massive gulf at the very top. Barrerra was about at his best and Naseem got convincingly beaten. Perhaps Morales would have been a better fight for him. He still wasn't as good as Morales but the style wuold have maybe given him a better chance. We'll never know.

The true greats aren't those that go there whole careers unbeaten. the greatest fighters (literally and figuratively) are those that take loses and come back stronger. Naseem had got so used to being unbeatable that he didn't know how to handle the feeling. shows his character flaws more than his boxing flaws. He'll never fight again, and even if he did, he'd never do anything worthwhile.

A shame.

I feel that the fact that he seemed to feel that he "knew it all" and therefore did not need to work on his technique was his ultimate downfall in as much as it was his lack of technique which was his undoing when he stepped up to fight the big boys like Barrera.

When I first saw him fight I thought he was the greatest prospect that I had ever seen.

He was certainly a "big boy" in terms of class of fighter that Hamed had been in the ring with imo.

I promise you those were the odds!

TBH i'd never heard of Barrera but i hated hamed and had done my pieces in the bookies that day, there was still tax then and hamed was way too short, i had the last £500 that was in my account over the phone and got a little bit out of the wreckage.

This was in the pre- betting shop roulette machine and online poker days so for a degenerate gambler like i was who couldn't make it to the stow that night but was still in the hot this was my only outlet to do the rest of my dough.!!!!!! Cheesy
