That's not the only reason.
Harrah's role was to be in setting up 5 or 6 much larger casinos. This was when it was looking like the government was going to allow more 'supercasinos' and 'regional casinos' than the one currently proposed.

I was at a gala seminar when one of the bosses said Harrahs was a sister company, shocked me a bit?

Harrahs would have built the casinos, set everything up and then handed them over to Gala after a couple of years, after pocketing a hefty fee. They have done this very succesfully in places such as New Zealand and South Africa.

I thought they would have used Gala's name to try and get licenses then handed them over to harrahs? Iknow Gala is going to float soon, thats why they are buying everything.

I dunno, you are probably right, Harrahs seem keen to establish a permanent presence in the UK.
I've worked for both companies and I know a bit about how they go about things. But mostly I'm just thinking aloud...
