This is a genre of music about which i know very little.

Ive got a lot of tunes floating about in my head that i want to download and enjoy during my "relaxing time" but i have know idea about symphonies, composers, and all other aspects of the classical music scene.

Can you give me some names of the more well known tunes that I may be thinking of to get me on my way, because i really dont know what i'm looking for but there are several well known tunes that i want to get hold of, i just dont know what there called.

Also if you can recommend any of the more obscure tunes, or your personal favorites that would be very much appreciated thumbs up

 Sprach Zarathustra - Strauss
( 2001: A Space Odyssey music )

 William Tell Overture - Rossini
( The Lone Ranger music )

Beethoven's first movement, you'll recognise it straight away

Fanfare for the Common Man - Copeland
(modern classical, very recognisable too)

The Planets and Bond are good as well.  Classic FM TV is the best music channel

I have lots of john williams music om ny mp3 player and a lot of Hans Zimmer too, not classic as such more just instrumental.

Tighty why the Copeland version of Fanfare and not the Emerson Lake and Palmer version?

The music for the Omen was by Jerry Goldsmith, if I remember correctly.

His music is fantastic, he has done so many soundtracks over the years

I was going to say that too.

Also one of my personal favourites is Canon in D by Pachabel

If you want a good mix of 'popular' classical tunes, you could do worse than get a copy of 'the best classical music album in the world ever' - lots of familiar tunes.
