Classical music's cool now and again.

Whack a bit of Beethoven's Moonlight sonata on to chill.

Being a former military man it has to be 1812 overture by Tchaikovsky. Commemorating Napoleon's retreat from Russia.

Anything by Shostakovich will do.

IX Symfonia Es-Dur, op. 70 can be a nice introduction to this inventive and complex composer.

St Luke Passion by Penderecki is another good one.

I love Chopin but it is important to get a recording by Hiroko Nakamura which is just breathtaking.

I think as with any music, it depends when do you listen and do you like easy listening 'popular' tunes or something more interesting in terms of structure.  Like are you fan of westlife or radiohead? the same principle applies to the classical music.

Mark-Anthony Turnage is a modern composer whose was nominated for Mercury Prize few years ago for 'Your rockaby' which is a great record.

Try anything by Hans Zimmer. IMO his best work to date was the soundtrack to Gladiator.

For me it's got to be -

Holst - The Planets Suite (Especially Mars)

I was going to say that too.

Also one of my personal favourites is Canon in D by Pachabel

me too, love that piece of music
