Feck Feck Feck Feck-times like this I feel like giving up poker!!!

I've just went broke and its all my fault and its doing my nut in- seriously thinking of giving up poker for the forseeable future- I had such a good past 2 weeks and was up about £500 from my live tourney and live cash play then have frittered it all away by playing cash games(live and online) outwith my bankroll- its all my fault really and I always said to myself I wouldnt play much cash anymore-especially online
2 key hands that decimated me were on ladbrokes(where I always get shafted) and were within 4 hands of each other- 1st was dealt QQ and put in a decent raise- got reraised by a guy who I had identified as a mug and after reraising again was set all in- he outdrew me with KQ, hitting his King on flop
2nd one was exact same scenario only it was a decent player and it was KK I had and he had AK, again meaty pot and we ended up all in after he set me in. Thats my bankroll well and truly plucked-have only about £80 left for tourneys til payday on 25th but didnt exactly want to go dipping into wages again, moral support required

my friend...you are not the first and certainly not the last to make this booboo. However it will be a valuable experience in your poker career...As long as you remember the pain you're going through now for the foreseeable future you'll gain a lot of discipline from it and that will stand you in good stead and also mean that you'll make your 500£ back easily.
If you can spare the 80£ and have it online then I suggest playing HU poker..start with the 5'er tourneys..you'll buil;d your bankroll up faster then you can say "GL".
If not..then you can play the odd tourney here and there and most 25-50p or 50-50p cash games as 80£ is more then enough for a good night out.
If you need the dosh cus your fridge is empty...buy food and play free rolls..and remember this cruel loss for a while and use it to your advantage against players who haven't yet endured this experience.
Hope that helps.

stuart unlucky mate, weve spoken about it before, just stay away from cash games! i know its easy saying that just now and not what u want to hear but youve been doing well in tourneys, so stick to that and if ur gonna play online play stts that way if you get a beat its not costing u that much. good luck tonight.

patience
discipline
good bankroll management
Some people learn by making mistakes, some never learn at all - try to put yourself into the first group and as well as working on trying to make yourself a better poker player work on these points as well as more often than not they are just as vital in becoming a profitable player.

Like thousands, i've been there and done what you have Hairy but it has definately made me a much better player. I'm sure it'll happen to me again somewhere down the line but i've learnt how to deal with it and it will only make me better still. It's a shame... but i think the only way you can improve sometimes is to experience an expensive bad beat or two.
Take 5 days off and then play a small MTT or something to get you back in to it feeling fresh and ready to build the roll again

If you can bust your bankroll in so few hands you are playing way too high for it.
For a great player a minimum amount of buyins is about 30 and scales to the infinite mark if your a losing player.
Move down, grind it back, learn BR management.

cheers for the replies everyone- I know i'll just need to become more disciplined in the games I play and my bankroll management,
Boldie- nah its not bills the £80- its just money I have aside for poker- still got my bills money and beer toekns money
Cambo- cheers mate- I know my own downfalls and it was stupid of me to sit in the wild cash game with sid and thomas and the chinese guys etc on wednesday-I should have went home after our cash game table split up- that table we were at suited me fine but the other one was a different scenario altogether- they were all going wild with any 2 cards and they could sustain the swings by just going into their pockets for more dosh-I couldnt.
Are you going tonight for the freezeout??

Gryff- I know that it was simply poor bankroll management- those hands I described were just the tip of the iceberg- my main gripe with myself was on wednesday I won the tourney in the cincinatti club-afterwards sat down in a nice wee simple cash game- and ended up with close to £300 on me when our table split- not wanting to go home and thinking I could beat the other table which was a wild table with triple straddles the norm, and with any 2 connecting cards being played- I ended up going home with only my taxi fare home!!! I lost some of it through bad play and some through very bad lulck- but your exactly right it was simply playing well out of my bankroll and I need to learn- I just wish I had the bankroll to play in this game as I know it is well beatable

This happened to me about 8 months into my poker life. I took three measures
1) I do not play cash on line - only tournaments
2) I try and play live more than on line - It struck me that it was too easy to call on line. It is harder in a live game.
As regards bad days - we all have them. Sometimes the game is just teaching you the meaning of the word fortitude
Sometimes it allows you to soar like an eagle even when you look like a hippo. Case in point is this past week for me.
When you are ready to return you will find that this is still the greatest hobby

Fair enough, I was just trying to point out that the live game was well within your roll
