Bankroll Advice

Having spent the last year playing and keeping a simple win/loss record, ive finally got together some cash to be able to try and get together a bankroll... I normally play either £5 or £10 STT's or between $0.5-$1 and $1-$2 cash.  Im wondering whats an ideal amount to start my roll off with? Ive heard 300x BB for cash and 30xbuying for STT's.. Would like some advice on starting my bankroll off, maintaining it and when to move up levels etc

I agree on cash, I hold more like 30 buy in's for STT. I would like to know if this is regarded as excessive.

Important point....find a game that suits you and work at it.

With regard to moving up....keep accurate and detailed records of hourly win rates and play at your buyin for long enough to be confident that you are not dealing with short term variance. How long that is, I haven't heard a totally convincing argument of.

As much as you can afford i would say.

Don't withdraw money if you can help it, i have had to withdraw big lumps for various reasons which have left me without the bankroll needed to safely play the level i was previously playing. Dropping down levels is rubbish.

Figure out how much bankroll you need to go up a level and when you get there withdraw any profits weekly or monthly from the level you are currently playing. If you are withdrawing everytime then move up and carry out the same process.

I did this but i sometimes stray when i just fancy some 'big action' but this is definately not adviseable.

In short as many BB's as you can pull together and as many X entries as you can muster.

Accurate and HONEST record keeping is of paramount importance.  A simple win / loss or up / down record is good but don't just sit there and admire it.  Analyse it! - keep a record of venues, site, buy in, hours played etc.  I have a very detailed spreadsheet that tells me all sorts of wonderful stats and it allows me to clearly see how much i am winning and losing at what games and what venues/sites are most profitable etc.  I also incorporate expenses incurred into this spreadhseet as i really like to know what i am spending and how i am doing at all times.  I regularly take time out to look for patterns and analyse it to death - YES, I AM SAD!

In terms of levels i would say play at a level you know you can win at (your records should point you to this!) and a level you are comfortablementally and financially with - its more fun and more profitable that way.
