on the wires yesterday....

LONDON (Reuters) -" Bookmaker William Hill <WMH.L> said on Wednesday it had stopped its gaming business in the United States, pending clarification of the scope and enforceability of state and federal gaming."

Billy Hill has stopped taking any US based new accounts in both its gaming And poker departments, this follows the recent arrest of sporting bets chairman in the us.

other non us based gaming companies are said to be reviewing their us policy, following a crackdown on computer gambling by authorities  there.

Gaming company shares took a knock on the news,

Will Hill down 0.3 %

Sporting bet down 3.4%

Party down 1.2%

Interestinly euro based gaming compay shares rallied on the news.

And on the funny side an Irish M.P. was SHOUTED down in the Doyle on Tuesday for suggesting the closure of all Irelands land based casinos.

I'm getting my donkey and panning stuff ready cos there's Gold in them there Irish hills. Cool

it was bound to happen sooner or later.

if all those companies were to pay taxes to the US government as opposed to whichever country they are based in they wouldn't be having this problem. This is all about the dosh and, like i said a while ago, there will be a massive backlash on internetpoker due to this.

on a difefernt topic One of my pet peeves; I can't believe thereare betting exchanges out there who allow Americans to lay horses on American racing. British racing is closely scrutinised on betfair but the americans can do whatever they want on certain exchanges on American racing...race fixing has found an open way there for them..yet you hear noone complain about that...
