I had tried a little exercise since this thread started. I downloaded a new site and got myself a " manly" name, one that no one knows is me, as some of my other aliases have slipped out. anyway,, what a result, I found that I infact did see a big difference in how people respond to my betting. I may try this for a while and see how much , if any my ROI improves under this alias. At the moment out of 4 x $20 stt I have come 1st x 2 and 2nd x 2. also winning a small amount on $1/2 limt caash. I love live play as a female (not a I can change my identity much there) but online I must say recently I have noticed that I do get my stack attacked quite a lot. especially by the the younger players. Well we'll see how this goes.

thats probably just down to beginners luck - most online sites have a clause that new players must at least win once in their first 5 attempts to keep them playing at the site
Can anyone honestly say that they've played against an opponent differently just because of their screen name or avatar? If so please could you explain why because i dont get it myself. Maybe its because i'm not prejudice - i want everybodies chips regardless of age, sex, race or species!!

this is what i told Dingdell when she was playing live. Trust me ..there are players out there that are not the same as you matt...they are called shovenists.. All I am saying here is that I am trying an excercise .plain and simple. I do not have a problem in playing as a female but with this thresd being started I just thought I would give this a go....

Well the Nun's going to swap gender's so maybe try setting up a new account on a site with a female persona.

So why not just devise a poker game plan against the individual concerned to combat it and let your cards do the talking?

Will you give it a go Matt and post your findings?, just as an experiment. Would be intrested to see if you notice a difference in how people play you. It would also be an interesting contrast on maureens experiment.

Matt gets a nose bleed if he plays anywhere other than Pokerstars though.

He could sign up with PKR would be an obvious choice. Good to see advancements in technology being utilised to generate avatars with enourmous norks and providing players the ability to call each other 'loosseer' in an annoying american drawl.

Sorry, 'fraid you'll have to find someone else to partake in the experiment. Like tank says i only play the one site as i like to keep my bankroll concentrated on one site rather than having the same sum dispersed around 10 different sites. The site i prefer most is pokerstars for its software, MTT blind structure and MTT availability. I've never played under any different name than the one i currently use and i am quite pleased with the results gained using this name - I have no desire to change, if it ain't broke etc etc.
I've spent three years building up the reputation that i have at the moment (be that good, bad or downright awful
) and whilst I'm still showing profit then why would i want to change that? When i sit down at the table i want people to think "oh god not the monkey" preferably for my poker playing rather than the awful stench and the fleas! (though in truth either is good enough
)
Rather than worrying how opponents play against me I'd rather be devising strategies to relieve them of their chips once they are at my table
