I think somebody should try and define what a "pro" is and then they could maybe run tournaments where pros aren't allowed to enter giving the amatuers more of a chance

I absolutely agree, Russ.  I don't think it'll ever occur, as different organisations will have different opinions.

Winning main events makes you a professional?

There is no such thing as amateur status in poker. Just people who can make it pay and people who would like to. It is a gambling game with an element of skill not a sport. Everyone involved is trying to win as much money as possible out of it.   

The term amateur is (mis) used pretty loosely by LNPA to give the tourney a sporting image when we all know such TV tourneys especially are nearly all down to luck.
