hi all

i got my laptop 12 months ago so now out of warrinty. i had a problem with the battery which was not charging. i had to perform various tests and satisfied compaq that it was a 'bad battery'.
now ive got a new battery and its the same scenario. it does not appear to charge at all. last night i left the power on and the little flash that tells you it charging (i think thats what its for) was on all night. this morning i got up and the battery is completely without a charge. previously it was sitting at 30% charge. my power options are set to laptop. i cant see anything obvious about what im doing wrong. can anyone help because im stuck with a lappy that i need to plug in?

cheers

If it has ever fully charged,  what is the longest use you have had from it mad?

My laptop bat is crap as well, I only get about 45 mins from it fully charged.  I always use my power cable

Mad,

what make of laptop is it ? Is it an IBM one ? Most new  laptop batteries need "conditioning" before they will start to work properly, i will dig out some instructions and send them to you.

i had never  went without the ac power until the summer. then i noticed the problem with the battery and got another. probably should have checked it out within the warranty.

i had the exact same problem , had my laptop for about a year then the battery and ac charger stopped working completely , luckily mine was still under warranty and i sent it away to get fixed , when i got it back the ac power was working again but still no charge in the battery , looks like i need to send it away again for a new battery , surely they should have discovered this when ther=y checked it b4 sending me it back ?

Most of them are easy to do, designed so you can easily switch to a spare battery on the move.
