Donnie Darko -  Offbeat science fiction/ mystery film. Well acted and scripted. Thought provoking and absorbing film that will have you thinking about it long after it finishes.

I keep meaning to watch this again as most people say it makes a little more sense the more it's watched?
I never understood the ending and i don't think anybody has ever explained it clearly.
I did enjoy it up til then though Cheesy

Sometimes you have to suffer a little bit in your youth to motivate yourself to succeed in later life.
Do you think if Bill Gates got laid in high school, do you think there'd be a Microsoft?
Of course not.

I think the film is left intentionally ambiguous which to me kind of adds to its appeal.

I don't think it's necessarily possible to work out an absolute meaning to the film but some elements are explained in the book "The Philosophy of Time Travel" which is mentioned several times in the film.

I liked the film so much as the direction is really crisp and sharp, the music enhances the mood throughout and the acting is spot on. Even Patrick Swayze (prob spelt wrong) shines!

Yeah!  The first five minutes I was thinking, 'What a load of rubbish'; but it turned out to be amazing, slightly disturbing film.  Those extended scenes, trying not to give anything away but I'm thinking the chicken dream and the Algerian's final scene -- wow.  Excellent cinema.  Is The Piano Teacher any good?

(I assume you mean Caché by Hanake and not Cache about four women robbing a bank!)

Caché -could not find the symbol on my keyboard.
Piano Teacher is an excellent psychological drama.  Haneke's first film was Funny Games which took the horror genre to new levels of (non) entertainment.

What I love about Haneke's films, is that they are so economical with dramatic devices, but their precision is almost faultless. His character development is full of humanity and there is no place for two dimensions.  Anyway I hope you will enjoy it.

I'm on a PC and to get the é character I held down 'Alt' and the typed out '0233' on the numeric keypad.  I just learned how to do that today. :-)

I'll be sure to check out some more Haneke [ah, that's how you spell it] at the next available opportunity!

I always respected the acting talents of Mr Jinks the cat from Meet The Parents / Fockers and have been disappointed by his lack of work since.   Cry

Personally I’d love to see a Fockers 3, perhaps entitled Further Fockerising even if it merely consisted of 90 minutes of Mr Jinks flushing the toilet, the baby whispering assssssss ----  hooooole all interspersed with numerous references to “little” fockers or “happy” fockers.

That would be bliss for me  ( as in happy not Dee ) but I suspect probably few others would want to enter this particular circle of trust!

If this is the same film as "habla con ella" then I would echo your cat's sentiments.

Seeing as all the film buffs are gathered here, can anyone help me identify this film. I saw it a while ago on BBC2.

Very surreal film, involving a crazy ginger assassin(in a suit i think), at one point there was a random dog with a human face and the portraits in the house had duck heads on them. The plot can't really be described as it didn't really seem to make sense.

Now about an hour before this film started I had been indulging in nefarious activities involving mushrooms, so it is possible i dreamed the whole thing up. But if I didn't, does this bizarre film sound familiar to everyone?

Yes, this is very detailed description of the film. Do you remeber at least what country of origin this film was from?

And as u say about your activities prior to watching the film, it is possible that the ginger assassin was not ginger but blonde, dog was in fact human who happend to have hairy chest, and the whole film was a musical called 'House of Ducks'

Thanks MrsLime for a tip:)
