my laptop had an ut oh last night,(we don't call them fires in our house we call them ut-ohs),
My hinges were damaged in a mountain bike /longest wheelie/I am a 10year old when on my bike incident a few months back, i think the metal hinge shorted on something in screen last night producing lovely orange flames.

I did the what you always do and blew on them to put them out.....................mistake.

Any way to make short story shorter, screens fkd...........................

Any easy way to recover my data, i have another laptop and a desktop monitor.

need replys before the am as i am off to get new lappy tommorrow.

Wife not happy with my sausage fingers mashin her keyboard

You will have to remove the HDD and install it on another laptop as a slavIde drive. You can google to find tutorials. If you aren't confident doing it yourself Im sure a local computer repair shop can do it for you.

You can install the drive on any PC it doesnt have to be another laptop. But you will need a 2.5" to 3.5" cable adapter as I think the ribbon cables have different plugs. If you plug the drive into your laptop it should be a straight fit - heres hoping you will have the correct cable to install it as a slave drive. Smiley

But your data will more than likely still be intact.

You can certainly run the laptop using an external monitor. Plug the external monitor into the vga socket on back of laptop then boot the laptop. You might need to press the Fn key and either F6 or F7 to activate the external screen. If you buy an external box, quite cheap on ebay, you can connect the old hard drive probably via USB to either a new laptop or desktop then you can copy any data you need across to the other machine.
