Can I ask a few novicey questions of the great minds of blonde please.
If someone raises infront of me do I have to say re-raise or can I just say raise?
If I verbalise the bet and say reraise and the amount can I then put the chips in any way I like?
NB:
I got pulled up at the Broadway for saying raise 3,000 after a raise and then knocking my chips all other the shop like the big steaming haddock I am.
you did the right thing up untill the moment where you just chucked your chips in.
It is etiquette to be dealer friendly and keep the table neat, that's why you don't just literally fling the chips in but move them in stacked

As I said to the wife;
Internet play is like masturbation, it’s a release, its quick and its OK.
Live tournament play is like making love to the woman you are in love with, it’s just so much better. (And also quite quick but I don’t want to go into that!)
But Chris Marais said I just lifted that from the bloke on the fast show (Swiss Tony) sounds about right as its to clever for me.

If you had announced raise 3000 before you knocked your chips all over the shop, your raise is still good
you can't help the big steaming haddock, happens to us all, at some point

If you say "raise 3000" then you have to put 3000 on top of the calling amount. If you say "raise TO 3000", then you put a raise that makes the total bet up to 3000 - that will do what I believe you where trying to do.

Don't be silly Kev, it is important you know for next time, the bit I don't understand is that you said "I got pulled up at the Broadway for saying raise 3,000 after a raise and then knocking my chips all other the shop " If you said raise 3000 then how can you get pulled up? Was you allowed to bet it? I hope so!

Yeah the dealer conceded that I had verbalized the bet, but mainly because the other player mucked as soon as I re-raised him so nobody was in an argumentative mood. Bigfella (glenn) was sitting at the same table as me and he couldn't understand it either. I felt like I had done the correct thing but was not really sure if I had caused a problem by not saying re-raise too 3000 and just said raise 3000 and put the bet in (cack handed as it happens) 3000 which was only a raise of 2000 on the guys raise of 1000 . Dealer was cool with it and I'll know in future to be more specific with my verbal declaration.

To Clarify then, you do not have to state re-raise, as saying raise is good enough. In effect you are stating that whatever it is to call you would like to raise.
I have never yet heard someone say re-re-re raise
(usually because it is an all-in by this point, but you catch my drift?

But as Mikky says, if you said raise 3000 then you do have to put 3000 on top of the call. so your action should have been 4000
