'Raise to X' or 'Raise another X'?

I seem to get caught out on this one quite a lot, most likely due to the fact that I can mumble with the best of them but is there a preferred way to announce a raise. I know this is similar to the question about ruling when someone puts in their call chips first but I'll count out all my chips, annouce my raise('i'll raise another 800') and put all the chips in.

i just say raise and the number, seems to work fine for me. You don't even have to say the number just raise and chuck it in and the dealer will sort it out.

Its just a case of emphasising the "to" part.
Personally i will say "raise to x total"
Ie the blinds are 400 /800 " I raise to 2400 total"
The total part helps as if they dont here me say to it can be construed as I raise 2400. Meaning a 3200 bet...
Hope that makes sense.

I usually say that aswell...Upto 6 etc. or "6 to play" something like that.
I always say the total amount...I never change this (some say "X more" as if to put people off calling) one because someone would notice you changed the way you say it...and 2, to make it easy for the dealer.

to be honest if i'm going to raise then i calculate the amount in my head first. Then i announce "raise", count out the chips and place/slide the chips forward in one movement. I never specify the amount, if my opponents wish to know the amount and they ask then i will inform them or allow the dealer to count the chips.

I like to annouce raise, then leave a pregnant pause as I count out some chips, then announce the "total to play". I use the space between announcing raise and actually putting the chips in to try to get info on how opponents have reacted to the raise announcement.

I usually go with the 'raise to x' option - not caused me any bother yet. My biggest problem is my habit of tapping my fingers when I'm thinking, which of course gets construed as a check
Breaking lifelong habits is difficult though

I think my 'raise another' habit is a hangover from playing on tinternet where I never have to bother about 'doing sums' and just have to be in a how-much-am-i-raising mode, plus it's a bit lazy as I don't have to undergo the mental strain of adding 2 number together.
