botanically avocado is a berry or drupe. Pears are related to apples and botanically they are called pome.

Sorry do deviate this thread but what about a Butternut Squash, it looks very akin to a melon, is it from the same family?

Butternut squash is from the same family as pumpkins and courgettes.
