I don't have a lot of time today as I'm pretending to work but I thought I'd open a thread wherein we can discuss and come up with the rules of the game we all love. From the basic to the very absurd situations we should have them all laid down. Maybe if we start something there will one day be some consistency in this sodding game.

Everything from Chipping up to how to carry chips to another table when being moved in a tourney (IOW, not to be put in your pocket but carried in clear sight)

It's amazing how many forums/fora's this comes up on.

However until you get the casino's and cardroom's on board things will not change.

I was warned off getting involved by Grosvenor when I worked for them. I imagine their stance hasn't changed. People from Stanley's were also likewise warned off. Grosvenor dont wanna share market information. Stanley dont want to be bullied by Grosvenor. Gala have some mystical set of rules that aren't open to negotiation or change. Independents dont want to be told what to do by the CHAINS.

And Tikay, before you say if a player comittee, or association, came up with a set of rules for them. They won't listen. And not playing a in certain places until they change rules won't work either. Despite what people say. They will go and play wherever there is a game still.

I don't wanna be a naysayer. I want rules that are complete, and cover every situation. Can u imagine the size of the book?? I've tried to get involved in things like this, and got in touch with Dik9 many moons ago, and had a few people on board from the different groups, however we all ran in to the above difficulties.

Superiors and the like.

I look forward to reading the rest of this thread and seeing several different opinions for every rule.

Ah, cows, forgot about them!  I've given up my website and opted for a free blog rather than forking out for another year.  Forgot to download the cows though and stick them on another site (the site hosted the files)  Must see if they are on my computer somewhere.

I wouldn't mind a rule regarding the time it takes people to act. There are obvious scenarios when time needs to be taken but some people take the proverbial. It's not so much that SLOW players irritate me, it's more to do with the players that sit there waiting to get the attention of the entire table so they can put on a silly act and 'think out loud' before making an obvious slow motion fold. You can multiply the irritation factor tenfold once this type of player has had a drink.

Whether or not they gain an edge by tilting other players is neither here nor there. If everyone took 'this long' we'd see even fewer hands per level.

(Glad I posted this. While typing I've come up with my response for the next time 'it' happens at my table.)

The annoying thing about this debate is that the task shouldn't really be that difficult.

Millions of hands are played online without any fuss, so why are there so many problems live?

It should just be a matter of isolating what is possible live, but not online.  Acting out of turn, chip/betting errors, showing cards, dealer mistakes - any others?.  Most of these can be minimised by education or threats of penalties.

Yogi makes a valid point, so perhaps the new Gambling Commission should be lobbied, but not sure whether they are that interested.
