Im a bit surprised im the first to post about the late great 'mighty magyar'.

more goals than games at international level, what more can you say.

my great uncle told me he was the 2nd best 'goal-getter he ever saw...............

..... oh the best?

Scored a hat-trick at Hampden in the Madrid 7-3 Eintracht final, an amazing scoring record and a Ferencvaros great until he had to flee Hungary. One of the real greats, as someone on another board said, that's some team God's putting together..

I'm amazed you were unfamiliar with someone who's was so influential in giving the England team some famous drubbings: 6-3 at Wembley, followed by 7-1 in Hungary.

I'd have thought the Scots would have built statues of him!

lol..I thought the same untill I realised that well...Most people in general, but British in particular, know very little about old players from the continent anything over 30 years ago is an eternity. Puskas is a legend in Holland, he played at roughly the same time as Abe Lenstra did (For those of you who don't know, Abe is rated a better player then Cruijf by those who saw them both..used to play for Heerenveen) and even Abe rated Puskas as a better player then he was. the man was simply astonishing. I have watched a couple of the games on video and it is astounding how good he was.

oh come on, if we were to build statues of every player that gave england a "red neck", then there wouldnt be room to move in George Square in glasgow.

Jim Baxter used to tell some blinding stories about Puskas, and in particular how Jim took the legend to a party in a flat in Drumchapel one night (cant remember the exact reason why he was in glasgow). Puskas was a legendary "swordsman", and within 1/2 hour of getting to the party he was banging some bint on the kitchen table, despite hardly speaking a word of English. Top man
