I just spent a few days with Mad Marty, the first time I have spent any time with him "off the tables".

He's a fascinating character, much different to the public personna he projects. A big lover of animals & wildlife, with a deep knowledge of ornithology, and a kind & caring man. He drove us all Mad on the trip with his countless questions - "here's a good one, did you know that....." but he turned out to be a real man's man. I overlaid two mornings, & Marty came into my cabin while I was asleep & ensured I got up - waking to "hey tikay, here's a good question" can cause one to lose the will to live, but he looked afrer me like an old friend, & i hardly know the man. I took a number of really ugly beats at the Poker Table, & he commented very kindly upon how I had dealt with them.

I must confess, I was perplexed how he came to land his job with Matchroom - that Lord Barry Hearn don't carry any passengers - but it soon become clear, as he took dozens of "work" calls while he was supposed to be having a few days break, & he dealt with every one with great efficiency, care, & attention to detail. He's sure landed on his feet with Matchroom, but he's on top of the job, and he will go a lot further for sure, he has hidden depths to his talent you could not guess at from his "Mad" prefix.

And Katheine is the love of his life, & he has exactly the right partner there.
