Just had a look on Stan James to see what tourneys are running tonight and noticed there is a $1000 freeroll with currently 8745 entrants with 16 mins to go! 1st prize pays $134!! What would be the point in playing in this?

because it due to a free roll like this that i have a bankroll at all

well a $15 freeroll on a tiny site with just over 100 runners and $5 for first place

playing the $5 on a 1/2 cent game i was able to make $100 and move it too a bigger site

i havent got a credit card and would want to put it on an unregulated site if i did

I have to say that those freerolls kept me sane over the summer. I had no income while I was off work recovering from a very very major op, so had to keep my head working, yet had to keep still and not move about too much.

I couldn't afford to put any money anywhere, so they kept me going - I won a bit from em - took ages, but please don't knock em - for some people they are the only poker they can access!

These freerolls bring back good memories.

My first online experience was in the winter of 2001. I had found Cardplayer magazines website and they had a freeroll on UB on that evening. I loaded up the software and battled past several hundred players to win $50. My first ever online stake.  Cheesy

I'm not knocking freerolls, my point is would you want to play in one with 10000 players?

because it pays 260 people and first place will get a hudred dollars or so

you play to your bankroll

if your a 1 cent 2 cent player then this is a good comp

if your a 30/60 NLHE player then you would avoid it like the plague

My first win was an free roll, there was 15000 allowed but it was a bit short at 11000+. I came 4th, for about $40, and was chuffed to bits.

9000 will probably go broke in the first hour. Just play wild and hope you're not one of them Wink
