Things to do in London?

It's Leons birthday on Wednesday and he has a week off work, I said I'd suprise him and I want to go to London to do something. We've already been to the usual attractions like London Dungeons and Madame Tussauds etc.

Any reccommendations?

London Zoo! The walk from London Zoo to Camden along the Regents Canal (three of the nicest houses you'll ever see back onto the canal just before London zoo) is good and there are some nice places by the locks in Camden for food/drink (not sure what its like on a weekday but on a Sunday its packed).

If your there for an evening I'd reccommend blood brothers if its still on these days, or if ashley simpson is still in Chicago go see that!

There is a new excellent installation at the Tate modern by Carsten Höller in the turbine Hall.  Then a walk to nearby Bourough market with excellent bars and restaurants is a one way of spending a day in London.

Funnyly enough I was at the Tate Modern yesterday. One really good point is that it is free unless you pay to enter any special exhibitions.
I enjoyed it, particularly as it gave me a chance to be a grumpy old man.

Then go on to Covent garden and watch the entertainers, but leave just before they pass the hat round for a collection.

it might have been a painting by Clyfford Still leading artist in American Abstract Expressionism of the 'color field' artists.


If this is the same painting, as there aren't many blue squares with yellow dashes in the permanent collection, I must say is one of my favourites.  I could easily have it in my living room. 

You must admit though that the whole Tate gallery as a buliding is quite something.  Turbine Hall is one of the best the best public spaces in London IMO.

Leon might enjoy the Games exhibition at the Science museum if he likes computer games. Just round the corner is the Natural History museum, which is always interesting.

The Royal Academy or National Gallery are great ways to wile away an afternoon. Tate Modern already mentioned is wonderful, walk across the eyebrow bridge from the North side to get thereand soak in the views.

Pub crawl in covent garden, thats about it really.

You are right. I forgot to say it had a little bit of red at the bottom and have since found on the net that it was called untitled.

Top idea   My missus loves Borough Market - it's always been the wrong day when I've been up!  It's also a nice walk along the South Bank, plenty of activity about if you like milling and people watching.  End up with a trip on the London Eye, either at day time or if it's a clear evening, go up when it's dark, great views across the whole of London.

Go to shepherds bush , home of the best Pie & mash shop in the world.

Get double Pie, mash, licqour & a side bowl of Jellied eels ... a big mug of tea and a KitKat from the fridge for afters.

Now thats a perfect trip to London.

While you are in Shepherds Bush, walk half a mile North, turn left after you cross under the Westway. Nice playing fields, a bit windswept but great views of one of the most striking buildings in London, architecturally brilliant.


Recognisable by barbed wire on top of the walls. Shout "Hello" at the top of your voice. Await developments.

Covent gardens just a cool place to be................ and whilst there GO SEE THE LION KING...........

Its amazing, the sets and way the costumes work , (you have to see it to get this)

London Zoo sounds good, although I'd worry about the weather but I know Leon would enjoy going there. We've both seen Blood Brothers far too many times, we love that play!

Tate Modern is a good idea too, I took Leon to the Saatchi Gallery when I was studying an exhibition there for a dramam performance, he enjoyed that too, it was full of crazy stuff. So the Tate Modern is also an option.

Don't really fancy shopping, markets or tasting the best pie & mash!!

The Lion King - I'd love to see that!

I will have a look in to all these things. In terms of food I'm thinking of taking him to the Rainforest Cafe as he has never been before.
