WSOP H.O.R.S.E on challenge
«

i was looking forward to watching the 50k horse event but when they showed it last night it was final table only with the game now reverted to NLHE
but with so much talent on the table i watched anyway
ALL i can say is WOW
some great lay downs
doyle letting go of queens on a 7 high flop to reeses kings
ivey letting go off AKs against AA (ok there had been a raise from A9 ivey reraises and then reese rereraised before both the A9 and AK fold)
i do think they need to recheck the comentary before broadcasting it though as at one point with dewy all in with T9s via AKs the flop came Q93 a 3 on turn and the comentaor said that gives him a Q as an out as they would both now have 2 pairs and the ace kicker would play (beginners mistake)
i am looking forward to watching the final 6 of this tonight makes a pleasant change from watching push or fold poker

I agree, the best TV poker for a long time but what did you think of Doyle donking off 300K on the bluff? It depressing they didn't at least show some of the horse action from the previous days on a TV table.
Also what the hell was Dewi Tomko wearing in his ears??

if doyle had bet 300k and took down the pot would we be saying he donked the chips
sometimes plays dont work what makes the pro's so good is that they dont get married to a play if it backfires

Was going to post about both of the points that Ironside raised, the brilliant Q-Q laydown by Doyle and also the idiotic comment from Norman Chad that AK would win against T9 if the board double-paired Q's and 3's...
Made for very interesting viewing, even though they weren't actually playing HORSE at the final table, which I've said before I believe is a crying shame.
As for Dewey's ears, I have noticed before that he wears something in his ears whenever he plays - I don't know what, I always assumed it was a hearing aid of some sort.

ESPN show coverage of other final tables other than just n/l holdem so why not keep the tournament as it was meant to be - HORSE all the way through.

I agree it was a shame. I remember Jen and snoops commenting on it in detail during the live update thread at the time.
ESPN insisted didn't they?

Which makes the WSOP a mockery, if ESPN were adding money to the prize pool then i would have no problem with it but unless they make the tournament HORSEN to accomodate the No Limit Holdem (or even NORSE HORSE where they alternate the holdem level between No Limit and Limit
) then the tournament should run as a HORSE tournament throughout.
Another example of the WSOP being about profit rather than poker...............

However if ESPN did insist, I agree with the monkey

Ahh my apologies
If i remember rightly though it was a decision taken between the head honchos at both the WSOP and ESPN because they felt that No Limit Holdem is the best format for television and that it would be the easiest to sell to the public. (though i may be wrong)

I agree it should be HORSE from start to finish, i think the WSOP/ ESPN are undersestimating the interest that the public would have in this. Ok so they would lose a few part time viewers but i think the average poker watchers would be interested in how the different games work.
It might be of long term benefit to all concerned to show the different games, after all they have been ESPN's coverages in the past (though maybe not in hi/lo versions)

you're right though. it was a commercial decision.

Interesting point about Dewey's earplugs - I would have thought that it would hamper his ability to read his opponents by paying attention to the table chat (etc.), which is why I always assumed the opposite.
As for the decision to make the final table NL Hold'em, if they're going to show the Omaha final and the Stud final, and they have in the past couple of years even shown a Razz final - then I would say, "what's the big deal?" However, what made this final compelling was not the game that they were playing, but the players themselves. After another five finals of unknowns and maybe one guy you've sort of heard of, it's a refreshing change to have a final table with three Hall of Famers on it; great reads, laydowns, moves and attempted moves, and above all: no whooping, hollering or high-fiving the rail. (Well, not much.)
Hopefully next year they'll add a few other HORSE events and we'll actually get to see some HORSE played on TV.
(P.S. Regarding the HoF: Great to see they added TJ this year; a touch overdue I'd say, but better late than never!)
