Thank you Mex, but the truth is, I use the Oscar Hammerstein approach to poker, and life.

Whenever I feel afraid
I hold my head erect
And whistle a happy tune
So no one will suspect
I'm afraid.

While shivering in my shoes
I strike a careless pose
And whistle a happy tune
And no one ever knows
I'm afraid.

The result of this deception
Is very strange to tell
For when I fool the people
I fool myself as well!

I whistle a happy tune
And ev'ry single time
The happiness in the tune
Convinces me that I'm not afraid.

Make believe you're brave
And the trick will take you far.
You may be as brave
As you make believe you are.....

Without that song, my boyish good looks and incredible talent, I don't know what I would do!

After reading some of the posts on here I decided to bite the bullet and made an appointment to have a blood test which I had on Tuesday and was told if anything was wrong I would hear within 7-10 days.

Today (3 days later) I got a letter saying the doctor has received my results and he has suggested I have a further blood test. I tried ringing the surgery for more information but it has closed for Christmas so I will have to wait till next Wednesday to find out what is going on and its driving me nuts not knowing.

Can anybody make a guess as to why I would need more tests?

Is it normal to have 2 tests to diagnose diabetes?

you can get a free test down at the chemist( lloyds) i  think do it. I wouldnt worry to much, even if its xmas, and they are closed, if it was urgent they would have had you in straight away, so i wouldnt worry to much about it. I have just had a full body check, from being very ill, i know how worring it can be waiting for them tests results. I also think there is 2 types of diabetes, so it could be the case they want to check the other one.

I didn't have a Lloyds nearby which is why I did it through the docs.

They did the liver/kidney/cholestral test too.

Im just abit worried that they have asked for more tests...surely the first lot would have given the results they needed

I don't know anyone who has diabetes to ask and googling hasnt helped much :-(

MOst GP's do 3 tests to ensure the readings are correct. It is possible that you could have had elevated or reduced sugar levels in one test for all sorts of reasons, so they do several tests to get an average reading.
