Hi. Im sorry to have to bother you with this, as i know there have been many questions like this in the past.

But now im at uni, and i only receive a low connection from my friends BT HUB, as he is 5 doors away.

Is there anything i can get for christmas that will boost a connection like this. As obviously i cant have my pokerstars and blonde poker league going down at important stages of tourneys.

I have seen Linkys boosters online for about £99. Is this what i should be looking for.

Thanks for any help

Go and sit in your friends room - will be alot cheaper and safer!!!

Or you could get your own Internet connection??

As for weather boosters are any good or not, I am unsure. But I am sure someone will post a more helpfull answer Wink

Buy your next door neighbour an internet connection and get a wireless doo dah.  It's possibly cheaper than buying a booster to get another internet connection.  He/She may even go halfs with you.

You could get a really long cable and wire it outside along the walls to your room perhaps?

the top option seems to be the best one to me...

Are you in a shared house and the connection is just many rooms away?

Im in a halls of residence. He is about 5 doors away. It works perfectly in the peoples rooms who are next door and next but one, but my coonnection is jsut 2 bars out of 5.

I cant really attach a line to the wall outside as suggested as drunk people walking past would probably rip it off at some stage to be hilarious.

Any help on boosters etc would be greatly appreciated bongo.

Not sure if it would work in halls of residence, not knowing the wiring - but you could try HomePlug.

This uses the mains wiring to send the signal, which is then picked up by a receiver which simply plugs in to a mains socket.

I had a problem with wireless at home (it interfered with my digisender and wasn't stable anyway), so I got a pair of these homeplug boxes and bingo!  Works brilliantly.

Now it won't work from one house to the next, as they can't send the signal beyond where the mains electricity hits the meter - but in a halls of residence I reckon you might be OK.  Worth looking into.

They also allow some encryption, so your mate would know that only you can piggyback off his connection.

Hope that helps.

Good idea. Maybe the one of the people either side of your friend is a girl you could get jiggy with. Then, afterwards (when she's asleep) you get stuck into the MTTs.

Poke her, then poker.

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

Do a search to show all available connections to your PC and use the one(s) that are unsecured, works for me Wink

Only works for the poker - searching the girl for unsecured connection points may get you a smack in the mouth.

I had a similar problem when i moved house, Tiscali cocked up my broadband (had to wait 5 months) and i could only pick up an unsecured network with 1 bar.
After a lot of research i found a product that plugs into the usb port.
Anyway, it boosted my connection from 1 bar to 3, and made the connection stable.

I got one for about £60 off ebay.
 Hope this helps.
