ive been invited to my girlfriends family xmas which will be "traditional". im informed this involves-carol singing on xmas eve, church on xmas morn, dinner,a walk, present giving, assorted game playing, moderate alcohol consumption. this is to take place in a little village called west byfleet and im assured is how "everyone spends xmas". however this resembles practically zero of my innercity xmas experiences and it got me to wondering how blondes celebrate/or not xmas. also wondered how many years does it take for something to become a tradition and any1 have any strange traditions they follow?

Did this village not used to be known as Royston Vasey up until late last year? I've heard lots about little villages and their peculiar customs Smiley

personally december 25th will just be a normal monday in my treehouse - the only plus side being its a 4 day weekend!! Grin

I wish I could say the same. My GF's family is taking the house over and coming for christmas dinner. Not that they're all bad, just everyone but her gran. but it has to be done I guess.

Boxing day will be my day though...wooohoooooooo

Make sure you have a steady supply of xmas spirit with you and you will be fine...

Don't go for 90% though as this can kill you.

Virtually no-one in my parents parish does the am service on the 25th anymore. Similar in lots of churches around North-East Scotland, Christmas Morning service seemes to just go out of fashion 10 years ago.

Standing room only on Christmas Eve pm though.

Makes sense, gives them more time to shell peas and make those criss-cross cuts in the arse of brussel sprouts on Christmas morning.

No prezzies till after xmas dinner, and we all sit round and open them one at a time. Not too bad this year, as we've done secret santa so won't have one present from everyone.

No Queens speech, usually clashes with Dinner.

i think this secret santa thing for adults is the way forward, the ammount of presents some people tell me they buy for extended family is crazy. i dont have that problem and people probably only to happy to have them to be able to buy presents for, just not lookin to get contraversial.

You should enjoy it.  If it's different from what you do, go for it, you'll have a great time.

I went to a Burns night bash in Switzerland whilst visiting some friends.  They knew a Scottish couple over there that invited us to a party on Burns night and we ate haggis, read out Burns poems and played charades (the book, film, person thingy)   Now that's not the way I'd do things but I had a great time Smiley

boxing day is the one day of the year I spend most of my time at the bookies or on the track if there's a good meeting on. It's the biggest sports day of the year and this year I have an Israeli friend coming over whom I haven't seen in a year or so...always good fun...especially as his wife will be cooking Smiley

I have to say that for me Christmas is just a sunday lunch with a lot more fuss. Me and my Dad spending time together is lovely but the build up and the buying of presents (I am a perfectionist) means I agonise over what to get for people for ages.
