I'm surprised as anybody but I'm just passing on what I read in Hellmuths 'Play poker like the Glaswegians'.

It may be an urban myth, but apparently in the days when *the* game was five card stud, Glasgow players were considered to be among the best in the world and there was an attempt to arrange a challenge match with LV players.
I think that the negotiations failed when no agreement could be reached on the type of marked cards to be used.

Although from Manchester i have to say that the standard of play at Blackpool was second to none for live tournaments. I believe Julian Gardner was a regular there before i began to frequent there and whilst i was there you could see the likes of John Falconer, Simon Nowab, Ash Hussain, Dave Clayton, Ali Mallu and even Ariston...... The standard of poker was always extremely high even for a £10 rebuy on a friday/saturday night.
