From tonight's London Evening Standard....

"Staff at top London Casinos to strike on New Year's Eve"

The roulette whels will stop spinning at a clutch of London Casino on New Years Eve after croupiers, front-of-house staff and other workers voted to strike on what is normally one of the most profitable nights of the year. About 300 Gaming staff have said they will strike for 24 hours from 7am on 31st December across the capital at Grosvenor Casinos, a subsidiary of Rank Group. Casinos affected are Park Tower in Knightsbridge, The Connoissieur in Kensington Gardens, The Gloucester in South Kensington, and The Victoria in Edgware Road. Staff decided on action after having a 3.5% pay rise imposed on them. They argue that the soaring cost of living in London means inflation is running at 3.9% at least".

Yes, the dealers at Luton were talking about this tonight, there is talk of Head Office wanting to draft in people from provincial casinos into the Vic for that night.

Response from Luton staff was a resounding raspberry!

They will settle, I'd wager on it.

I would not wager on it.

Casinos groups have got away with shafting thier staff for so many years now it will take them far longer than that to realise that thier most valuable resourse is ridicoulously undervalued.

I hope that it goes ahead as casino staff get extremely shafted over the Xmas period especially, in fact they get shafted most of the year.

Unfortunately it will probably be a case of all Polish, cheap staff that will be offered a nice earner to work that night, it would be nice if they refused, but casinos seem to think they have got the staff over a barrel, and will not be held to ransom.

I'm with the staff on this one.....unfortunately I have no doubt that it will have little effect except in the short term

I'm happy to wager it will be settled - but I did not, & am not, suggesting the Employers were likely to shift their stance in any significant way......
