Or anyone british to play regularly. I have a lot of time for Wenger but wish the rules would change to restrict foreigners. Arsenal have become nothing more than a brand with no local players at all. How many home grown players do they have? I would rather support a team that encourages home grown talent. Like City of course.

Wenger is by far the best in the transfer market, no doubt about it.

got to say thats great spending by Mr Wenger,especially when u look at what Chelsea, Man Utd have spent in recent seasons.
Maybe next season, could be the time for them to bring it all together, they also have many good youngsters in under 18's, reserves and out on loan!

Wish we (leeds) could put any sort of team together though really tho, would be a 1st....maybe get some of them young gooners on loan

Considerations here for me - Brady and Wenger run a great academy, just because it does not produce English kids, doesn't make it any less successful, that sadly to a certain degree is down to George Graham.  Due to his crimes Arsenal have to be saintly in the area of Transfers - they have no get of jail card left.  So they cant bend the rules for the local kids buying Dad a new kitchen/car etc, so the kids in Arsenals catchment area go to West Ham, Spurs, Charlton etc etc, this leaves the Gooners farming the kids from abroad, but the last 8-10 years have produced massive talents, Cashly, Clichey, Fabregas, Toure, Van Persie, Voltz, Sidwell, Bentley and more have all benefited from Brady and Wenger, and if not Home grown, defiantly home matured.

Wenger never asks/forces anyone to stay at the club, if you want to go, you can go.  Yes the pressure at Arsenal is for results, so some of the kids do get moved on, he doesn't make to many mistakes, in who stays and who goes, but you have to want to play for that badge and the club, playing for Arsenal is more then 90 minutes a week, I have seen first hand players give huge amounts of there time and money to Middlesex Children's Hospital, Great Ormand Street and many more urban and city projects, they may be a brand, but in my eyes still a brand unlike any other, obviously I don't follow other teams like I follow Arsenal, and I am sure other clubs excel in these area's, but I believe the players for my team still make Arsenal a great club on and off the field, and to be honest I couldn't be prouder of the current bunch if I tried, British or not.

I love it how you come on here, and all you want to talk about is how Arsenal are this and they are that. Wenger is great etc...You don't want to talk about general football matters. Arsenal Mania is dat-ta way!

How many millions has Wenger wasted on shite players? Obviously, he has done wonders at Arsenal, and without him you would still be like you pikey cousins down at West Ham. But can you add up all the Jeffers, Reyes and Cygans of this world and tell me how much money he spent?

There are more...I wonder if you can name them all?

And please do not try and counterstrike your argument with anti Tottenham Hotspur remarks like "we done this then and you didn't do this then" because we have been down this road already!

WOW that is a bit harsh Nem but dont worry I'm not offended.  I like to think of myself and make an effort to be objective in all my debates as having seen so many highs and lows I know that what comes around goes around in football.  FFS i have seen as lose 3 successive European finals in 3 different competitions! i was at Wrexham when dumped out in the 3rd round so i know its not all roses...

However if my posts are too pro-Arsenal i do apologise.  That is certainly not the intention.  But they are my club and the one i take most interest in.  However my knowledge of football is good enough that i shouls be able to talk intelligently about other posts.

I must say Nem that i have been a bit quiet on this forum for a few months mainly coz u havent been around!! I feel that we can have intelligent debate without it getting personal! Long may that continue

As for your question - Reyes was not a bad buy.  He did very well here and was homesick.  Cygan was a playerthat served a purpose for 5 years and was still sold for a profit! Hardly a bad buy.  When we bought Jeffers i think that everyone wanted him but the truth was as a player he was just not up to it and this has proved as he has moved on.  So these are not great examples but you are right there have been duds, such as Richard Wright, Inamoto (tho prob signed for PR than ability) amongst others but this is always going to happen when you are involved in the slightly bargain end of the top flight tansfers (i..e. we cant do a Man Utd or Chelsea and buy £20m plus players).

If you want to criticise Wenger then you cannot do it on his transfer success - try his lack of English talent, his bad sportsmanship at times etc but please not his success in the transfer market!!

Dont know if I agree with this. I think when your buying the players at the higher end of the market, its easier to buy duds, ie. overpay for players. I think when your buying relatively cheap players, if you have the patience and resources, then there is a low risk involved - especially in the eyes of football fans. One high profile £15M signing is a dud - or 5,6 or 7 small £1 and £2M pounds signings, all young developing players who never play for the first team? I think the average football fan is more bothered by the big signings than all the small ones, but all these small mistakes soon add up. And the main examples of arsenal wasting money, has all been at the upper end - Richard Wright, Jeffers and IMO Reyes.

I'm not being anti wenger. I think he is a superb manager who has done amazing things for arsenal, BUT, he has been helped by the fact that he has been able to rely on one or two great, like truly great (not modern day Joey Barton is great), players to carry a team with a lot of young players which has allowed these young players to develop into much better players than if they were stuck in the chelski reserves.
