its funny, everytime someone gives a tip. the source always seems to have won his last three naps at lucrative odds. I must be a right jinx to always end the run,

hmmm I really don't understand this way of reasoning. This is like saying "feck it, if I can't win a STT I'd rather bubble", only one thing matters when gambling and that's making a profit. if a horse is 8-1 and you think it'll win but you can also make a profit if it finishes second  you always go for the profit. I didn't stick a 5'er or a tenner on him but a substantially larger amount and I would have been OK with him finishing second as it would means a decent enough profit.

You also always have to think of gambling in an ROI kind off way. If I think a horse will win but it finishing second or third would still make me 50% I'll take the 50% anytime if offered the choice between "Oh well it ran a good race in second shame I only backed it to win" or "Well dissapointing it ran second or third but atleast I made some money out of it"

EW betting at certain odds is for people who want to make money. Backing horses to win only at those odds is for people who like to gamble. I don't give a F about the thrill of gamling. I want to see a profit in my pocket that's all I care about.

just my two pence.

if i was going to play an STT and thought, i proberbly won't win this but i might get 2nd or 3rd, i wouldn't be sticking my money in this situation. i don't think backing E/W does give you a good ROI, but i don't think horse racing gives you a ROI anyway. IMO
