i am normally a full ring cash game player. what sort of hands would you be stealing with (unopened pots) and defending with in a 6 seater game?

blind defence is way overrated imo. be interesting to see what other people say.

surely if you're stealing you don't need a hand right? I don't really see it as stealing (although it obv is) it's more about pissing the geezer off enough with your raises that he makes a big mistake when you actually have a hand for once.

Hmmmmm good question

The answer to it is pretty well an entire 6 seater strategy.  I still haven't mastered it as unfortunately as I can't beat the rake unless the table is entirely populated by idiots.

Start off by raising with any 2 if folded to the cutoff and c bet 2/3 pot.  Your opponents will soon get wise to you and start getting weak tight.  So then get a bit more selective and raise with big cards and cards that would benefit from seeing 4 cards e.g suited connectors, because you then will check the flop if you don't hit.  This will result in you putting beats on them and they will start getting more aggressive pre-flop.  So you tighten up..... and so it goes on.

Excellent question, and I agree with Byron- stealing in cash will cost you long-term.

The only times worth "stealing" per se is when an extra blind has been posted- you can then raise, say, 4xBB with anything from c/o through to BB if there are no other limpers.

In most situations though, I'd be raising from c/o or button with any Ace, any pair, any two big cards and any suited connectors.

Totally agree.

I have been playing alot of 6 seater cash atm, and probably 85-90% am open raising with any 2 cards - I get alot of action when holding big hands, and also hit the flop with filth as well.
You have to "give" action to "get" action.

This I have found to be a good tactic, but you do need to be carefull people do not back raise you alot. If you are finding this happening, either change tactic or move tables.

Also, try not to be predictable, mix up your play - most people do not spot this and just get a "first" impression of how you play and it sticks.
