But if he stops just one person smoking, and gives them another 10 years of life, how can you knock him for this??

I am not necessarily. Actually I saw credence in both points of view, and leaned to 2 myself. Purely on his smarm factor lol

"Smarm"?

you know, someone who is "smarmy"

I dunno, Terry Wogan, Dale Winton  etc

McKenna is a prat...definetly nr2.
OK he might have helped stop 1 person smoking but he's ripped 1000's of others off at the same time.

The fact that we are settling an argument here implies that there exists somewhere a person who doesn't think option 2 is the right one.

I find this puzzling!

I've been reading derren brown's book and he makes it sound as if being able to hypnotise someone isn't actaully that hard. The point being is that there are hundreds of hypnotists out there and the reason he has achieved celebrity status is because of his style of performing. I'm sure he is a very different character to the person who appears on tv.

He is definately number 1. He has helped hundreds (if not 1000's) to quit smoking, lose weight and cut down on drugs AND EVEN GAMBLING and also has helped people with low self esteem. So surely he teaches ppl to believe in themselves and to make them be confident. Surely if he wasnt to act confident (which may appear as arrogance) then surely he could not teach what he preaches!

Great guy (he's a man after my own heart as he loves cars!)
Who wouldnt want to be him. Earn MILLIONS while helping ppl!

P.s- Surely shoody qualifications shouldnt even be an issue if his methods actually work!

Personally, I don't believe in what McKenna does, but there are plenty of folk who do.
The only way to 'settle the argument' is to poll a number of people who have had dealings with the man.

That was typed under hypnosis, I didn't even know I was doing it.

Wow, I didn't realise so many people where so scathing about him.

Definitely No 1 for me. But then I'm biased. I've been trained by him and I now assist on a lot of his seminars.

He makes such a huge difference to so many peoples lives and he is very keen to teach his skills to as many people as possible so they too can make a difference.

I dont know about him, fake or not? Who will ever know except himself, therefore you can not settle this argument.

As for hypnotism, it is possible. I was a heavy sceptic about it, till one year on holiday we went to see a hypnotist perform.
What a load of blx, I was thinking to myself,,,,,, till he hypnotised me - quite a scary thought really that someone else can make you do whatever they want you to do.

I was skeptical about mckenna till i read one of his books.

It was really beneficial, with simple techniques that helped me out a lot in various situations. It's not like he's the only practitioner of NLP, there are lots out there.

As to how good he is in the flesh/ live shows, I can't say, never seen him but i found his book excellent.

Admit it, you plant subliminal thoughts in the seminars and stuff for folk to buy the books!

I've got a lift in Mark's car one day, two weeks later I have like seven copies of smoke yourself thin on the shelf. What's going on?  Wink

someone very close to me read one of his books as well and it really helped them.  Never read his stuff myself, but seeing the results first hand, I can't knock him.

To be fair, it's not quite as bad as all that.

If you go under and someone says, jump off the cliff, your body won't let you. Your subconcious mind has a survival reflex, just as your concious one does. The stage hypnotist appearing as if they are in complete control is apparently all part of the illusion.

I don't know much about it, but I heard something like that once.
