An MP's select committee has said that the type of call in Quizzes such as ITV's Quiz mania are fraudulent and should be reclassified as gambling and therefore by covered by ther 2005 Gambling Act. If so, and the shows are said to be "lotteries" then at least 20% of the profits must go to charitable causes.
We've had many threads on here criticising them, and of course most of us will welcome that this rubbish, according to the recommendations made by the MP's to Ofcom, is to be better regulated with measures such as on screen warnings about costs and information about the likelihood of getting through being posted
Things that came out were that if you ring you have a 1 in 400 chance of getting through and that ITV makes £20m pa from the programmes
Anyway so much for all that
