So you have a new router?

Have you gone into it's config and put in your broadband username and password?

Ok, so you've moved the router to a different location and wish to use it instead of the existing broadband modem?

I'd say because your router isn't connected to the internet, but you your laptop can connect to it so it says it has signal.

Is this cable/dsl?

Who provides the connection?

NTL/Telewest are cable, just about everyone else is DSL.

Both were telewest?

Have you switched it all off, checked it's all connected properly and then powered it all up, starting with the modem, then the router?

It's been a long time since I've used cable so I might not be much use.

You'll need to login to your router and see what's going on, possibly change the username and password to that used by your parents.
