how about this one then i encountered a while back...

live NL cash game. 5 are left as it's nearing sunrise now.
blinds 1/2.
i'm the biggest banker on the table currently with around 550. my opponent in this hand is the next highest stack with around 400.

he raises under the gun to 12.
folds to me.
i'm on the button with  and call.
blinds fold.

flop 

he bets out 45. i move all-in.

he now takes about 2 minutes thinking while the rest of the table discuss the hand out loud. eventually he shows  without announcing anything. i ask "have you called or what?" "i haven't decided yet" he replies. the dealer takes his hole cards away from him and turns them over and pushes the pot to me. the tired and slightly drunk opponent then went mental and stormed off with his remaining stack to the cashier.

was that dealt with correctly?

Yes, if the rules in the cardroom are that exposed cards are dead.
