West Ham have bought him for an initial £6M rising to £7.5M on appearances.

I watched him quite a lot when he was a gooner, and he is fairly classy but lacks a yard of pace
for a top-class defender IMO. He is also prone to the occasional rush of blood and embarassing boo-boo's.
He was very unlucky with injuries whilst at Highbury and missed a couple of seasons.

I'm not sure if we get any cut from a sell-on clause (we sold him for £2.5M), but the price still seems high to me.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is also on a Neill (£60K) per week wages too Wink

No value at all.

Same league as Bent for 18 mil ad Lucas Neill on 60k per week.

West Ham are a mini Chelsea. No VFM whatsoever.

He's well worth it unfortunately Sad
Injuries have dogged him for long periods, without those he would be an established England regular by now.

Very good player.

They have paid slightly over the odds, but if they beat relegation, money well spent

Shouldn't the fact that he's injury prone make him a risky purchase, or is he just unlucky rather than a complete Darren Andertonite.

He'll be even better value in the summer - for someone else - if we don't escape relegation!!!

Unlikely, as no other club will pay that for him! Wink

Cannavaro? Always thought he was pretty decent over short distances. Wink

Lot of money for west ham to pay but they are desperate

Upson never got a proper chance at Arsenal but i think he lacks a yard of pace and more crucial than anything he lacks confidence.  For me that is so important.  You can have all the ability but if you dont have the confidence / arrogance to go with it, you suffer.

As a result - i think he will never make greatness but hes a decent centreback although i think there are a few at that level around.

Interestingly, didnt Everton pay not much less for Lescott?  Just shows the silly money involved with English players. Upson certanly is better than Lescott
