Has anyone here built their own poker table?

I am seriously looking into it and am making a list of all the parts I need. So far the only thing I am having trouble finding is the foam for the padded rail. Does anyone know where I can get some? I am after 1 large piece big enough to cut a ring out of, so it needs to be at least 8'3" x 4'3" to go around the 8'x4' table. Probably 3" thick.

Hopefully mine will look something like this one:

from http://www.junell.cc/pokertable/
but with standard stainless steel cupholders not the super big gulp style.

This is the main resource for anyone interested in making one:
http://www.homepokertourney.com/tables_build.htm

Total price is looking like £250, hopefully worth it. Although I have yet to buy anything yet, I am making sure I can get everything I need 1st. There is a product called Perfect Padded Rail but I think I want to make my own rail, assuming I can find the right foam. And I think you can only get Perfect Padded Rail from the US too, as with a lot of the items I want!

Keep us posted on the project.  Something I intend to do as well.  The wife will be pleased...

Anyway, with regards to the foam - have you tried contacting foam suppliers directly.  http://www.efoam.co.uk/ is one that came up on google, and there are loads more.  Don't have a clue how much they charge, but I'm sure they'll have something suitable.

So far I have contacted a large fabric / sewing store and they said they don't stock foam that size but could order it for £150. Err, I'll get back to you! Something like £20-30 is what I'm after.

Could you not get a long thin bit that goes right round the table? You might need to cut darts in it for the curved end, but it might work.

Been to that site already, unfourtunately even though they are from the UK they bought everything from the US Sad Which isn't really what I want to do, high shipping, long waits, possible customs charges. But re-examining the site, they bought their foam from http://www.smfoam.co.uk/ so I will see if I can get the right size, then I will have no more excusses for not making the table.

As for these real nice poker tables for £250, where might they be? I have seen some Ok ones for £300 and some real nice ones for £450... but not for around the £250 area.

Looks like you might need to use 2 peices - doubt you could tell if the vinyl's put on well.

Also they used 1 inch thick - 3 might be a bit too much Wink

Our local market has a foam seller I'm sure.  It's been a while since I've been, but there was one.  Worth checking out and asking them.  There's a shop in Woodley (nr Reading) that sells foam too.

Good luck with this.  I looked into building one last year but haven't started yet Cheesy  Be interested to see how you get on Smiley

I bought foam for under the cloth from efoam.co.uk and found there service to be first rate, and funnily enough I bought my foam for the padded rail from Silo's said shop in Woodley, it is called Freelance Fabrics and cost me about £20.

3" definately seems too much now compared to theirs. But i definately want to use just one piece of both foam and vinyl. You can see a join in the foam through the vinyl because it's pulled really tight.

Does this shop in Woodley have a website? Do you think they will do mail order?

Otherwise I think i'll get Premium Firm 80"x90" from here http://www.smfoam.co.uk/site/html/foam.php

TheWhisper, what spec of foam did you get for under the cloth? Did you use 1" for the rail or a bit thicker?

Now then, anyone want to show me a pre built table before I start ordering all this stuff?

Thanks for the help guys.

Hi Rich,

I'm just going out for a couple of hours, but when I get back I'll spend a bit time and do you list of where I get all my materials from.

In the meantime checkout Scott Keens forum for some great tips on all aspects of table building... http://www.scottkeen.com/forum/

Cheers,
Alan
