Fun topic on the QPR messageboard I go to...

When you were a kid, playing football in the park or the playground, who did you pretend to be in that little commentary in your head?

Me, it was usually Peter Barnes. A flying and tricky winger for West Brom and Man City.

Then, after I had been to Loftus Road for the first time I was always Sir Stanley Bowles!

Abe Lenstra...He used to play for Heerenveen and turned down a massive offer to join Juventus. By the people that watched him play (pre-Cruijf and Van Hanegem) regarded as the best player Holland ever had..

Pele Cheesy

When in primary school (back in'th days when i could still run) i was only 7 years old when picked to play for the primary school team even though the rest of the team was made up with 10 and 11 year olds. They let me join in during the games in the playground as well when we used to kick a tennis ball round the playground which was unheard of really as they usually never anyone 3 years below them to join in their game. During one of the games in the playground i had the ball at my feet but was facing the wall of the canteen with one of the older lads stood at my back trying to tackle me.

I flicked the ball up with one foot and kicked it against the canteen wall so that it went over both our heads and spun round behind him to get the ball at the other side, then nutmegged (sp?) someone else who had also come to tackle me - it was then that the first tackler (who i remember was a lad everyone called Jonah - though i dont think that was his name  ) piped up "he's like a mini version of Pele".

It kinda stuck so all the other kids called me mini-Pele Cheesy

Dalglish or Sammy Lee.  I was dead small when I was young, and loved little Sammy and how good he was even though he was only several inches tall.  King Kenny, well - he was King Kenny.

We didn't used to 'bagsie' players, we used to go for teams.  I always went for Liverpool at the time as they were winning everything.

hmmm, since i'm only in my early 20s I don't think i picked such legends as Pele and the like.

I do remember "being" Shearer when he was at Blackburn.

More recently playing with my younger brother in the back garden I've been Claudio Cannigia and Julian Speroni.  Both Dundee legends!
