If a company asks for your passport or driving license no. - do they verify it?
As long as you got the format right, couldn't you just make one up?

I haven't played it via the Sky Box, but yes, I'd imagine it's charged per minute as a standard phone call (either local or national). Either way, I won't be playing like that - that's what my computer and broadband connection are for.
If you've got an LCD telly, link your laptop up to it, and play on your computer but on your telly screen. TV resolution isn't very impressive though.

I did register an account via my pc, but last night I tried to see what it was like via my TV & Sky+. After pressing the red button, I got a message saying that if I proceeded any further I'd be charged for using the phone line. I immediately came out of it.
I'm a bit worried about what ercistoner said as I've not actually played any games since signing up.

Good evening all.
Thanks again for all your feedback. We've had a big review today and will be making some further changes over the weekend.
On the requests for some players to provide passport details etc, I wanted to explain what's happening. We are licenced in Alderney which, believe it or not, is one of the foremost jurisdictions for gaming in the World. They do a lot to ensure consumers are protected, to ensure operators like Sky are socially responsible etc. As part of licensing conditions, we are required to verify customers so that we can be sure that you are who you say you are, and to be sure you are over 18. For most people, we are able to conduct this check from the information you enter upon registration, but for about 20% of the UK public we need further details to check this (because the data our verification software has may not be sufficient in individual cases to verify a customer) - that is what has been happening to a few respondants here.
As the UK introduces the Gambling Act later this year, you'll see more of this, I'm afraid (i.e. from a much wider range of companies). However, if you haven't moved address in the last 3 years and you are registered on the electoral role, then your chances of being required to provide details are quite low.
It is a good thing, really, that we verify customers. It ensures that we can prevent children playing, and ensures we can also prevent money laundering (which al companies will be required to do from this year).
Hope this helps, and sorry for any inconenience caused.
Enjoy the tables tonight.

Thanks Mr Suit. Could you also clarify what the call charges are?

I just noticed the point about phone charges for TV play. All of Sky Bet's services are charged at a local rate on connection via the TV. This has never really been much of an issue before as when you are having a football bet, you're only online for a few minutes. However, we have had quite a bit of feedback from our TV players about the potential charges, and we're looking at alternatives (there is actually a charge to Sky for the incoming connections from TV players at home, but we are thinking about whether we can offset this depending on levels of play)
Thanks again
Did any of you see Helen Chamberlain and Norman Pace hosting last night? We thought it was the best evening so far, but would like to hear what you thought. I know there were the competing matters of Valentines Day, the Brits (Live) and Bolton against Arsenal, so you're forgiven if you didn't look in!!

So we got 276 entries tonight....some marketing started today, and the site is a bit busier, though only with low stakes cash games at present.
Will be interesting to see how 3 hours goes with 276 players......may be a little quicker tonight in terms of blinds towards the end. Bear with us - as the numbers grow, we're gonna have to tweak that, together with entry fees, start times etc etc to suit different needs and tastes
