I buy in for the minimum, lose this and buy back in for the min. The game gets a bit juicy so i put a further 8 buy ins on the table. I then get into a hand with some bloke who raises me 1 buy in, i re raise 3 more buy ins and he starts bitchin about not knowing how much money i had on the table.
Is there any etiquette to adding money to your stack? Should you annouce it?

I don't see why you should announce it. I assume the guys you were playing with aren't blind so they can see you buying in.

I assume your extra buy-ins just sitting as cash on the table and not chips?

I know I was unaware of the 'cash plays' rule when I went out to Vegas as I'd never played live cash before.

Simply that - cash on the table is in play exactly as if it were chips.

When I first played I assumed it was money for further buy-ins if they got stacked and that only the chips in front of them were in play.

yes that's what I thought first aswell. It helps to clarify what the rule is where you are. Ussually all cash/chips on the table is in the game (which also means you can't just take it off the table) but when you buy chips it can be quite tricky for someone who doesn't know this.

If I were to just put cash on the table I always advise the table of this as a courtesy.

I think is polite to announce in some way hat you are dding money to your stack. In most places this is done automatcally if you pull out money ad ask for cash chips but if you pull cash chips or cash out of the pocket and put it directly onto your stack then its hard for anyone to notice this.

Despite that, it sounds lke the othe guy s just complaining because he knows he has the worst hand.
