The European Order Of Merit.   Why is a player from Korea leading it?

V Singh is the highest earner on the US tour with $1,465,245 .   Lorena Ochoa is the leader on the LPGA money list with $2,592,872 . Does this mean a fairly decent standard male player could go on the women's tour and possibly earn more than some of the leading male players?    Would he have to wear a dress and make-up or can he legally do this within the golf rules?  Cheesy

Hi Sark,

Yang won the first big 'Euro' tourney in Asia in a field that included Tiger Woods.
The US tour money list is only just over one month old and VJ has a win and another high finish so far in what is now called the Fedex cup points table, the top 64(i think) will play off for a 10$ million first prize later in the year.

The money list you are looking at for the LPGA tour is last years final standing ( i am assuming) as the main tour in the US has just started for this year.

Strangely enough it is ok for ladies to be invited to play on the mens tour(Michelle Wie and Sorenstam have played mens US tour events but men cannot enter any of the Ladies events.

Thanks

Ok, thanks mate.  I thought it was strange that the money was higher for Womens than Mens, it is last years I was looking at. I remember when the two women played the mens tour and didn't do too well if I remember correctly

Yes, Wie played well in her first few tries but has been way down the field  ever since, she played the Hawaii open earlier this year and was again never sighted.

On a wider note the big problem with the US tour these days is the amount of money involved, very average golfers are earning $2 million a year from playing consistent, never in contention golf. They just rack up top 30's and 400k a time. This has caused the standard to drop coz the players are all comfort zoning.

Lol, not quite - a 30th place finish pays between 30-45k depending on how many tie for that position and at the end of the season you have to finish in the top 125 of the money list to earn your card for the following season. Last year the person who finished 125th won $660k during the course of the year

Not bad for just a year i know Wink

You are right Matt and that is the problem, each tournament has around 100 millionaires playing pitch and putt on courses set up for low scoring to suit TV and ticket sales. Thats why they are not getting any better.
