Just realised my cars tax is out of date by a day. I need to get the thing MOT'd for the first time too. I know the green cameras on the road side grass u up for evading yer road tax, but do you get any 'grace' on paying up yer tax.
I know when u used to get caught you'd be let off if you were within a coupe of weeks overdue. Does this still happen?
I hope so cus it might take a couple of days to get sorted...

If you drive it without tax - you aren't insured. Big no no.
I'd get it taxed ASAP, if the MOT has run out you'll need that to get it taxed. But you need to do it as soon as possible.

You know you can do it online? It's ever so easy but you need the documents that they send through. The local post office today was rammed with people getting tax disks

doesn't have to say it in law, it will probably say it in your insurance policy.

I would like to know of one case in the UK where a motorist has been prosecuted for not displaying a valid tax disk which also makes there insurance invalid. Unless you know probably different Regards M

Dont bother getting it insured!! It might cost £1000 to insure it,but get caught and the fine is about £300. Therefore leaving more cash for poker!!

A valid MOT is required for your insurance. Check your policy. Therefore driving without a valid MOT will mean your insurance policy is not valid - meaning you're driving without insurance. Also: http://www.dvtani.gov.uk/compliance/faqs.asp#40Believe me, you should not be driving without MOT isn't a good idea. Also, there is no 'grace period' although you can get away with driving to an MOT centre for a re-test, but otherwise once it's run out the car should be off the road and should be SORN registered (you can't just not get a car MOTd, it has to be MOTd or declared SORN). But don't take my word for it: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=driving+without+mot

This is a good forum for motoring-related legal questions. Moderated by police officers: http://www.5ive-o.org/forum/showthread.php?p=268147
