The simple joy of......

....banter.
So, there i was, sitting down to a STT at around 2am, only expecting to get a little poker in before i retired, but what i experienced was the best STT i have played in for a long time. And not because i cashed, no, what made this STT so good was the atmosphere created by my fellow players and the banter between us.
What started out as a simple "Morning people" turned into a relaxed, funny and sometimes deep conversation, it was like we were friends who had known each other years and the poker was incidental. It reminded me why i got into poker in the first place, yes i wanted to improve my game and learn more but i started out playing as a social excersise.
Most of the games i have played recently have had no chat what so ever, not even when i say "gg" at the end, and these are not high buy-in serious events.
I did not realise how much i missed the simple banter until last night and it has reinvigorated my playing.
As a testament to this STT, EVERY one playing added every one else to there friends list.
I most certainly look forward to meeting up with those guys again.

Absolutely.
I had got so used to no one chatting that it became the norm but now i realise it somehow affected the poker, it was lacking that "Something".
It got to the point in this STT there were a lot of "Walks" so people could stay in to chat, being that this particular room does not allow chat from players who have been knocked out. The result was that we had a virtually full table when the blinds became really big, think most only had a couple of BB or so !

For me, poker without banter ain't a lot of fun.

I completely agree.
The 3 other most enjoyable times i have played poker would have to be -
1, BB3 with Simon, Tom and Maria all to my left, nightmare table with Simon "The Card-rack" but great banter.
2, APAt at Aspers, after the first hand when people relaxed and started to appreciate the atmosphere of another great event.
3, Our first proper home game at AdamM's house with his wife, family and friends.

Getting me to shut up at a card table is the most difficult thing!
My first experience playing on PokerStars involved a very deep conversation with a fellow opponent whilst playing a cash game.

I had a nice game this afternoon like this. Loads of nice chatter going on was a change. I don't usually bother typing anything but it was good today.

To be honest, i was enjoying the banter so much, cashing or not, did not even concern me.

Have to agree, that first home game with Adam and his family and friends was quite an experience. I was seriously so very, very nervous but they really put us at ease with their friendly banter. Twas a good night, it has to be said.

I hate banter at the poker table, you are not there to have fun.

Some of us are! And some can play well AND have fun. I only get 1 out of 2, but that's how it is, I still adore Live Poker.

I have, but those wrap-round shades intimidate me.
